Short answer: a 1,000 Wh-class power station can run a 1,500 W space heater, but only for about 30–40 minutes. An electric blanket or heated mattress pad, on the other hand, can run all night. For winter outages, heat the person, not the room.
Why space heaters drain batteries so fast
Resistive heaters turn every watt into heat, and they use a lot of watts. Most plug-in heaters draw 1,500 W on high and about 750–900 W on low.
Runtime (hours) = usable Wh ÷ watts
- 1,056 Wh station × 0.85 ≈ 900 Wh usable
- High (1,500 W): 900 ÷ 1,500 ≈ 0.6 h (~36 min)
- Low (750 W): 900 ÷ 750 ≈ 1.2 h
Anker’s SurgePad and BLUETTI’s Power Lifting modes let some stations “run” heaters above their rated output by lowering the voltage. The heater then simply makes less heat. It doesn’t make the battery last longer.
Electric blankets: the efficient answer
| Device | Typical draw | Runtime on ~900 Wh usable |
|---|---|---|
| Space heater, high | 1,500 W | ~36 min |
| Space heater, low | 750 W | ~1.2 h |
| Heated mattress pad / electric blanket | ~50–100 W (on low, after warm-up) | ~9–18 h |
| 12 V heated blanket (car socket) | ~45–60 W | ~15–20 h |
Check your blanket’s label for its wattage. Warm-up on high draws more, then it drops back as it cycles.

Winter outage safety
- Never use a gas grill, camp stove, or generator indoors to heat. Carbon monoxide is the leading cause of outage deaths.
- Close off one room, hang blankets over doors, and gather everyone there.
- Keep the fridge closed, and use the power budget on it first. See how long a power station runs a refrigerator.
- If someone in the house uses a CPAP, budget for it first. See sizing a power station for a CPAP.
- For heating a whole house through a multi-day outage, you need a gas furnace on backup power or a generator. Compare in power station vs whole-home battery vs generator.
